For scribing the painted surrounds of both rivets and screws whilst the fastening is still in situ. This limits the flaking or lifting of the painted surface when the 
rivet or screw is removed, reducing the need for 'touching up' later, so improving the appearance of the finished job. Also limits the chance for wind or moisture
 to further damage the finish. A modest tool but with both a cosmetic and a functional payback.
